The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
