The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
