A two-month voyage through the Australian Coast was terminated following the tragic passing of an senior female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a distant island.

The passenger had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the party for a rest. The vessel departed without her and returned after some time after the crew discovered the woman was not present.

A large-scale search operation found her body the next day.

Authorities are examining the event, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator stated that passengers and staff on the ship were told that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier engine troubles".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Officials also released an updated communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" preventing any additional guests from getting on the vessel.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in the Australian city upon its arrival.

Sequence of Incidents

The liner initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the point of the 80-year-old's passing. The remote island was the opening port on the voyage.

Passengers on the ship - who typically pay large sums of money to take part in the expedition - were ferried there for a day trip with the choice of hiking or snorkelling.

Relatives Reaction

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her family was "stunned and saddened that the vessel left Lizard Island after an scheduled excursion without my mother".

In her statement, she portrayed her parent as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a participant of a hiking club.

"According to scant information we have been informed, it appears that there was a lapse of responsibility and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to identify what "the organization should have undertaken that might have saved Mother's life".

"We understand from the authorities that it was a exceptionally warm day, and she became unwell on the uphill trek," she explained.
