Defiant Nancy insists he is not worried about dismissal yet Celtic fans show fury after loss.
The under-pressure manager stated he had no concerns about dismissal, claiming, “We are really close to things turning around,” despite moving dangerously close to being fired with a heavy defeat by their arch-rivals.
A Second-Half Capitulation Leads to Old Firm Loss
The Hoops were ahead their oldest rivals at the break but a second-half capitulation let Rangers to pull level on points with the defending Scottish Premiership champions. The French coach, who was brought in from Columbus Crew, has now been in charge for six setbacks in his last eight games.
“There is unity at the club,” insisted the manager.
Pressed on the speculation, the 48-year-old responded: “It’s not on my mind. I concentrate on working out methods to help my team to excel on details.
Protest On Display
Celtic’s support displayed their anger – aimed at the board and manager – by protesting at full time. Club directors are reportedly likely to return to Martin O’Neill, who steered the club during a caretaker period last year, should a change be made.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. So this is the reality for the moment. But by saying this is the reality, it doesn’t mean that I am giving up. Absolutely not. The message is we are really close, extremely close to turn things around.”
Focus on the Details
He continues to cling to the fact his team can perform strongly for 45 minutes at a time. For instance, were it not for wastefulness in front of goal they would have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough aside from the fact that we didn't take more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I have also to be objective.
“The performance we had at stages was of top quality. That happened. I wouldn't speak so positively if it was not the case. Therefore, in terms of results, I mentioned we've seen this before. That’s why I believe we are nearly there to things turning around. But for the moment: the fine margins.”
“There were plenty of positives that we did, as was the case today. The issue now it’s about performing for 90 minutes. My message would not be the same. This is why I firmly believe the team can to turn things around.”
Opposition Reaction Outlook
Danny Röhl was cautious about a serious challenge even after what felt like a huge result. “We take it game by game, and we can develop a challenge,” he said. “The faith in the team is outstanding.”
