Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden Fall Classic since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, the star outfielder smashed a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a four games to three victory in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now hit twenty-three October home runs, placing him third all-time after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person in the world that I'd prefer in that situation except for Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the sole team never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he added.
Toronto secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
