Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:
- Each team includes just eight real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
