Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future after another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is gone, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
