"Any idea when you're speaking to the band?" a text pops up. "My request was to ask if I can be their fourth member."

However, there remains a single issue: I also wants to be the Haims' newest recruit. What's more, we are not alone. Multiple high-profile admirers have publicly coveted the position.

It's clear something is happening. The siblings Este, Danielle and Alana launched their musical journey playing gigs at local delicatessens with their parents. Presently, they stand as repeated Grammy Award contenders.

Similar to the best groups, they're a inseparable trio. Their videos repeatedly depict them walking in unison down the streets of Los Angeles. On stage, they jam with such unfettered happiness you find yourself thinking, "I wish to be part of that, too."

"The numerous instances on tour that audience members told us and said, 'Seeing you perform, I got a bass'," remarks Alana, the youngest of the Haim siblings. "That is the biggest honor. That is recognition in itself. We've done our job if we can inspire others to form a group."

"Therefore anyone are welcome to be the fourth Haim sister."

Award Recognition

The group are speaking from their homes, where they're recovering after an extensive tour in for their fourth album, I Quit.

They're currently reeling from the news it's been nominated for a top rock honor at the Grammy Awards – with Haim the very first all-female band ever in consideration for the trophy.

"I tune into the announcements every year, so it sort of feels like The Truman Show when your name is called," notes Alana. "I had to call my sisters to say, 'Am I hearing this correctly or am I hallucinating'?"

The weight of the accolade is deeply felt by the sisters.

"We really set out to make a guitar-driven album this time, so it's a significant achievement," continues Alana. "Yet we're just thankful for the women that paved the way."

Heartbreak and Laughter

The album emerged from a period of emotional upheaval. All three sisters ended up single, and the music inhabits that unique transitional period where you're glad to be free, but not quite ready to start anew.

The words follow departures and farewells. The sisters want love, but not the specific love they've had. You can hear them figuring out in the moment who they want to be.

"I adore summary, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is essentially a personal statement. You have to make an effort in blocking the noise and saying, 'I don't give what people think'."

Refinement of Style

That newfound confidence called for a fresh approach – more organic and immediate than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who helped produce the album, that started with the drum sound.

"The drum sound is such a specific thing, and I am so passionate about it," she emphasizes.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the name of our biography," laughs Alana. "Our motto is, our albums don't start until we find the ideal drum sound."

Anecdotes and Shared Laughter

The band's candor fueled the album's rollout, where the sisters revealed some of their dating horror stories.

One man ended things with Este over a medical consideration. Alana shared a story of travelling to spend New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a casual gesture at midnight.

"When you're going through these breakups, you just feel like there's only darkness," explains Alana. "Therefore to be able to find humor in those stories and hear others tell you wilder stories, it's therapeutic."

A Secure Legacy

You can clearly sense a shift in the band. Today, Haim are more confident of their standing in the music world.

They're top-billed acts, with hit albums and an worldwide audience.

Yet the band will always be their top priority.

"My sisters and I have been playing music since I was four," shares Alana. "There is no alternative that we were meant to do. And I'm really thankful we've reached this point and we're still making music."
